The shares of independent film distributor Works Media (WKS:AIM) jumped 3.5% to 3.5p after the company unveiled the acquisition of all UK distribution rights from sales agent Cinemavault to the film Interview.
The film stars Sienna Miller in only her second leading role, and is directed by Steve Buscemi, who is perhaps better known for his acting roles in Reservoir Dogs, Fargo and The Big Lebowski. The group plans to distribute the film across the UK during the fourth quarter of this year, before subsequent distribution across other media.
Interview is Buscemi’s fourth film as director, but he also plays the male lead, a fading political journalist who is forced to interview America’s most popular soap actress, played by Miller. The film explores the contentious relationship between the media and celebrity and received critical acclaim at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival in January.
‘Our distribution arm is making great progress and Interview will be in excellent addition to its portfolio of titles,’ says chief executive, Norman Humphrey.
The deal is one of several UK distribution rights achieved this year for films, including Andrew Piddington’s The Killing of John Lennon, Adam Green’s old-school horror feature, Hatchet, as well as Paris je t’aime and Two Days in Paris.
Humphrey took over the role of chief executive in March, following the resignation of Chris Auty.
