Smith & Nephew (SN.) – Finals PTP: $469m ($550m) Divi: 7.4c (6.7c)
Revenues increased to $3,369 million against $2,779 million a year earlier, supported by particularly strong growth in Orthopaedic Reconstruction. Growth in this division was primarily driven by the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System (BHR) in the US, following its launch there last year, and a recovery in US knee revenues in Q4. Advanced Wound Management, meanwhile, enjoyed a healthy recovery following several difficult years. But the year also saw two voluntary recalls after a packaging error at a subcontractor led to the recall of 185 BHR implants while a number of knee implants were later recalled because they contained a higher than specified iron content due to a production error. There were no reported patient incidents however. Shares ticked up to 633.8p.
Shares says: Strong demand for its products should continue to drive the group forward.
