The European Space Agency is proving a good source of revenue for Cohort (CHRT:AIM), the rapidly growing defence consultancy and advanced surveillance systems group. Cohort will make a Radiometer costing £12 million to measure radiated energy. The device is a key part of the EarthCARE satellite that should provide more information how clouds, aerosols and radiation interact and increase global warming. Closer to earth Gas Turbine Efficiency (GTE:AIM) shares climbed 8% to 44p on news its orderbook is up two thirds at $14 million compared with the same time last year. Engine maker Pratt & Whitney has ordered a further $3 million worth of jet engine cleaning equipment for Singapore Airlines. The airline expects to save $15 million a year in fuel costs and reduce CO2 emissions by 128 million pounds as the EcoPower wash service cuts fuel consumption by almost 1%.

Shares says: Saving the environment is good for shareholders. Cohort and GTE are both sound long-term investments.
