The UK-based coal bed methane (CBM) specialist Island Gas Resources (IGAS:AIM) is in a pretty exclusive club of one as it attempts to become the first company to prove the viability of the process on British soil. It has made some progress since its admission to the junior market at the back end of last year and anticipates first gas sales from its Doe Green site in Cheshire before the end of the year. The company will also be drilling appraisal wells across its portfolio. CEO Andrew Austin says: ‘We continue to demonstrate the viability of producing onshore gas from coal bed methane in the UK, and its increasingly attractive potential to become an important new source of energy.’
